Last week the first competition of the Dutch Youth Boulder
series took place in the Bolder bouldergym, Rotterdam. For me it was the first
serious boulder competition in over half a year and I must admit that I was
quite nervous. I started out quite well by flashing two problems and climbing
two others second go. But from that point on the machine faltered. Although I
managed to stick almost all the bonus holds I was just sliding on the holds and
I missed that bit of additional power to finish the boulders.
I tried to
salvage as much as possible and used the last minutes to try and add another
top, each time getting closer to sticking the top hold. Just seconds before the
end signal I started my last attempt with the intention to finish the problem
in extra time but slipped immediately after taking my feet off the ground 😞. Obviously, this was
not enough for a good ranking and when the final results were announced it turned out that I ended at a disappointing 13th
position; my worst youth competition result in years. Nevertheless, I’m already
looking forward to the next competition which will take place on the 11th
of march in Cube, Enschede.
This year I’m doing my exams for high school and therefore
there was no climbing for me this weekend. I was locked up the whole weekend
for additional tutoring in mathematics 😓.
The days were really long and tiresome. Well I will write this off as an
extended rest period 😉 and I’ll keep my spirits up by looking forward to the next bouldering trip to Crevillent
in Spain. Just one more week of school!
